ALL ABOUT EBOOKS

If you're not familiar with the ebook format, it's definitely worth looking at.

Ebooks are downloaded instantly to your hard drive. They come in Adobe's “Portable Document Format” (.pdf) which reproduces the book exactly as it would look in the normal hard-copy printed version.

You can browse an ebook on screen, flipping through the pages like a printed book.

Or you can print it out. Simply call up the book, put enough paper in your printer - normal letter size (8 ½ x 11) and tell your printer to print all odd pages. When it's done that, check through the printed pages to make sure no blanks slipped through (printers often pick up 2 sheets in error). Then regroup your pages blank side up in ascending order with page 1 at the top of the pile, and tell the printer to print all even pages. You can let it rip and hope for the best, but if the printer picks up 2 pages at once, it throws the whole thing out. So we feed the pages one by one for the second print run.

If you want to edit the text in any way, cutting bits out, saving favorite quotes etc, bring up the Adobe document, select FILE then "Save as". From the "Save as type" menu, you can choose Microsoft WORD, Plain Text, or several other formats.

The Adobe Acrobat Reader which you need to read an ebook in the common “pdf” format is free. Download it by clicking on the logo.
